Sons and strings

M and I went to Heathrow with W and his friend and waved them off for 6 months. It's New Zealand this time. Last time it was Australia, Malaysia and Vietnam for 15 months. He did a lot of that trip by himself and managed to be robbed only once, ("They took my shoes, Mum, my shoes!! And I have worn nothing else on my feet for over a year! You can only imagine the pong!") His credit card was also taken, but never used. Everything else was in his body belt under his shirt. I think New Zealand will be good for the skiing etc which is a major part of the reason for going.

Oh to be 24, single and fit - except for the shoulder and bruising from the recent car accident!

I went to do some cello practise after returning from the airport and my C string was positively flapping in the breeze! All the others were hugely out of tune as well. It took me an age to get it back to normal, and I am at a loss to know how it happened. Do the pegs just go mad for no reason, or is the Spring weather playing games I wonder. I was in no mood for playing afterwards, but tried anyway and I squeaked my way impatiently through some pieces and wished I hadn't bothered because I felt completely hopeless at the thing. However, next day I bought The Gadfly by Shostakovich and am enjoying trying to work out the best fingering so that I can impress my teacher when I go next week! I hope I don't mess it up and have to spend another week unlearning my efforts.

How interesting that you are a cello student also! I am in my late 50's and have been taking lessons for 4 years now. I'm over to visit you from Yarnplayer's cello and tatting blogs which I've enjoyed so much. I dread breaking a string, which I did the other week...the A string but of course! Thankfully I have the piano to help me get back in tune. My electronic metronome can drive me crazy at times. Happy Easter to you! I saw in your profile that Pilgrims Progress was afavorite book of yours. Same one I'm thinking of?

maggie ann:- How very nice to meet you! I am sorry I have not replied sooner but the laptop has been on the back burner for a while as I regularly go manic just before holidays. I set myself impossible tasks to complete before going! This time it was pressure hosing the garden paths, and shampooing the carpets! WHY?? I also enjoy Yarnplayer's cello blog amongst several others. There seem to be a lot of us late learners out there. The Pilgrims Progress I refer to is by Bunyan. A wonderful book. I have an old edition that used to belong to my father. At first glance it looks like a large family Bible. I love it.
